Worldlines
This series of line scan prints reveal pattern, trajectory and rhythm replacing one linear dimension with time—worldline means trajectory through time and space. But these Kyoto scenes aren’t totally abstract since details of familiar reality can be seen if you look carefully at the large-scale prints. After recording thousands of photographs the artist edited the images for aesthetic qualities but the seemingly distorted crowds and things are shown exactly as they were captured by his handmade camera.
ラインスキャンシリーズではパターンや軌跡、リズムなどが時間と共に直線的な次元に置き換えられてプリント上に表されている。Worldlineとは時間と空間の軌跡であるが、全く抽象的ということでもない。なぜなら大きなプリント上で見てみると見覚えのある現実の細部が映し出されているからである。何千もの写真データを記録した後、作家自身の美的感覚にて編集がされているが、そこに見える歪んだ群衆や物体は作家手製のカメラが捉えたそのものである。
